Phone student loans. Explain that you don't earn enough, they will send you a deferment form to fill in. You complete it and send it back with your last 3 months' payslips and they defer it for a year. In about 11 months time you will get next year's bill. If you are still not earning over 2k per month you ask to defer again and send your deferment with last 3 months' payslips again.
You can defer until you earn over the £2000 a month until the age of 50 and if you haven't paid it off by then it gets written off. I earn less than that a month but I still want to pay it off now as I don't want it looming over my head, it's better to get rid of it as soon as possible as don't forget that the interest rises with time.
