Can UK creditors find u in USA?
Answers:
I am American and I would be willing to bet that the debt will eventually catch up with you, and possibly affect your credit. My experience is actually the exact opposite of what you're experiencing. I got calls from US banks/financial institutions looking for my sister-in-law who had moved to the UK. They were wanting me to locate her for them. I did not think it was my place because I am not her blood relative, but I did alert her that they were looking for her passing on the contact info. I suppose that a UK collections agency could very well track down your relatives/friends and search for you as well. Of course, I do not know what the UK laws are regarding refusal to pay debts, but in the US they can garnish your pay or get judgments against you in a state or federal court. Whatever you do, be careful. The past always has a funny way of popping up again in the future.
Unless you changed your ID illegally, then yes it will affect your credit (if you're with an international bank, at least)
only if you tell them where you are... but its always best to try to re-pay your debts try writing to the cc company and tell them you want them to suspend your credit card and interest and offer them 10%
There won't be a worldwide manhunt for you. However, you're screwed if you go back to the UK with all that debt still on the books.
It's not all that difficult to "skip trace" someone and find their location. But you need to leave them a trail.
Driverse License
Visa
Bank Accounts
Employment Records
Once you start leaving a papertrail the will find you.
Once they do, then what? It's extremely difficult to file a lawsuit from a differant country. The expense isn't worth it.
They can not touch your credit history in the US because it's separate then the UK. But they will certainly place it on your UK reports, and you are messed up when you go back home.
I will go on your credit report.
It's amazing how people can think they can run up debts, have money for other things (like moving to another country) and yet think they have the choice NOT to pay the debts THEY OWE.
Listen, do us a favor - stay in the U.K. and own up to what you owe and pay it off pronto. I don't see how your habit of owing is going to change in the U.S. as it's a more expensive place to live than in the U.K.
America already has enough freeloading foreigners.
Stay in the U.K. and pay what you owe.
