Debts in the UK but you now live overseas?

If you have unpaid credit card and bank loan debts in the UK and wish to return can you be arrested at the airport?

Answers:
No. Having outstanding bank debts is NOT a criminal offence and will never involve the police unless

a) you acquired a significant amount of credit fraudulently (which is a criminal offence)
b) the bank you owe the money to knows your travel arrangements...

Even then, you would have to be subject to an ongoing investigation by fraud squad for them to bother sending someone to the airport.

Millions of people in the UK alone have outstanding debts and travel abroad: the police and fraud squad have bigger fish to fry.
unless its fraud i doubt you will be arrested
if it has not been too long.i doubt it
if it was a very large amount
probably
If you have or need to come back maybe you will just have to test the water, hope everything goes ok,my x daughter inlaw owed the Social money but managed to get backwards and forwards from Spain.
Unpaid debts are civil law, not criminal so you don't get arrested for them whether you are returning from abroad or even if you never left.
Monetary debts are Civil law not criminal law and you will only go to prison if you fail to comply with a court order as you are then in contempt. However, the creditors will periodically do system checks and as you re-enter the uk you will show back up again (benefit claims, nat. ins. payments,PAYE tax payments,Voting ect.) so you will find that at some point they will issue court proceedings against you for non payment - and trace you to your new address
